Club Day 2009!

Happy Monday!

I hope you all had a great time at the club day assembly- there were so many to choose from! Freshmen, make sure you don't overdo it, and only join the clubs that you are really interested in. Upperclassmen, feel free to try something new and expand your horizons! It's never too late to get involved at Pres and make some new friends.

Panther Pride had some pretty crazy relays going on at lunch today. Make sure you look out for their events in the future, like the Spring Spirit Carnival and A-Day Smackdowns every other Friday! If you feel the need to let out your stress by playing some hardcore sports against your teachers, grab a t-shirt and join in.

Also, hopefully you're getting extremely pumped for the Mag Drive assembly on Wednesday! Get ready for some class-level competition, and get ready to make some noise!

Have a wonderful week!

Alisha

Mag Drive Tips!

Student Council knows that selling a large number of magazines can be tough, especially when the competition is so fierce! So, we've compiled a list of helpful hints to sell as much as you can!

1. Homeroom Reps and Class Officers- lead by example!
2. Competitions between homerooms, losing teacher should dress up!
3. Mag Queen of the day- whoever sells the most of the day gets to wear a tiara for the day
4. Neighborhood sales with friends- be careful of stranger danger!
5. Expand customer horizons with:
a. Renewals from previous customers
b. Mass emails to relatives
c. Go to parents’ workplaces
d. Hit up doctors, dentists, and hair salons
e. Ask club sports teams
f. Ask middle school teachers
g. Have distant relatives order online!

Good luck!

Letters to Soldiers in Afghanistan

Krista Jensen, Senior Class Officer, is currently organizing a program to write letters to soldiers in Afghanistan, where her uncle serves. Those who would like to in homeroom would be able to be pen pals and have regular correspondence with a soldier. In October, there will be a care package drive for the soldiers we plan to sponsor. One representative from each homeroom is needed to help coordinate the letter writing process- contact Krista by Wed, Sept. 9th at kjensen2@pres-net.com. Don't miss out on this wonderful opportunity!

A Night to Remember

Hey Girls!

Wow, was that an awesome night or what?! From the beautifully decorated shirts, to the crazy dancing, it was definitely a night to remember. I was so excited to see all of you there and get to dance with you girls. The Class of 2013 has got it going on! I also want to thank you guys for keeping it clean on the dance floor. I think that all of the teachers were really impressed and you made the night fun without any of that nasty dancing :) I hope that you all had an awesome time and will keep that enthusiasm going all year. Oh, and it was cool seeing some of you at froyo after the dance! You guys rock :)

Love,

JT Wozniak aka J-Weezy

Here comes the weekend!

Freshmen, the night you’ve all been waiting for is finally here! The “Tell Me When to Glow” mixer is tonight! Remember, you can make your own shirts as long as there is no writing on it, with the exception of “2013.” Bring your glow sticks and game faces and get ready to dance all night long!

Is your car in need of a little water and soap? Are you trying to find something to do on Saturday afternoon? The Presentation Dance Team is having their annual Car Wash Fundraiser this Saturday. Please support the Pres Dance team by stopping by the Chevron station at Almaden Expressway and Redmond between 9am and 2pm. Suggested donations are $5 for a car and $10 for vans, trucks, and SUVs.

Next Monday at 3pm, we’re going to have our first Student Council meeting of the year! Everyone is welcome to attend. We have a lot on the agenda, including the discussion of Mag Drive incentives and committee time. This year, student council will also have open committees. The committees are groups of students who are in charge of planning events and activities for a certain aspect of the school. They plan events and have responsibility of maintaining that area of expertise throughout the year. Here’s a list of the committees:
• Student Activities Committee: The student activity committee will head the planning and running of ASB related events throughout the year. They will also work closely with Spirit Squad to promote spirit and bring down the apathy level in the school.
• Social Committee: The social committee is responsible for the coordination of ASB dances and mixers. They will also be in charge of the logistical planning of the Big-Little Sister program and events throughout the year.
• The Chill Squad: The chill squad helps ease the stresses of students, teachers, and faculty.
• Campus Improvement Committee: The campus improvement committee works on ways to improve the appearance of the campus and the feel of the school.
• Community Outreach Committee: The community outreach committee helps promote a positive relationship between the school and the surrounding neighborhood.
We hope to see you there!

Also on Monday is Club Day. Get ready for awesome skits put on by the leaders of all of the clubs on campus! Club sign-ups will be in the center after the assembly. Make sure you don’t overwhelm yourself by signing up for too many clubs. It’s better to be active and dedicated to a few clubs than have to be a flake in a whole bunch. This is a mandatory collaboration so plan your rides accordingly.

Hope you all have an awesome weekend!

Love,
Lindsay

1 Week Down, 17 to Go!

I hope you all loved your first week back as much as I did! Everyone looks a little bit older, a little bit wiser, a little bit taller, and a little bit tanner! To all of the returning Pres girls, how’s it like being back at school? Have you noticed the new parking spots and trophy cabinets? And to all of the freshmen, what do you think of Pres so far?

Are you guys ready for MAG DRIVE? Don’t forget, tryouts for the kickoff are at 12:30 every day this week. Start selling those magazines to everyone you know: aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, friends, teachers, neighbors, and co-workers! Remember, you can even sell magazines online. Consider sending everyone you know an email with the link to the website (www.qsp.com). Here are the instructions on how to have people purchase magazine subscriptions online:
- Go to www.qsp.com
- Push the link that says "just shopping"
- Enter the Presentation ID: 425002400
- Use a Visa or Master Card
- Forward the E-mail of your receipt to me at [insert your email address here]

Now to all of my funky fresh freshmen, are you ready to boogie with the Bell boys? Get your glow sticks and neon attire ready because tickets to the “Tell Me When to Glow” themed frosh mixer will be sold on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 12:30 in the courtyard! The tickets are $10 each. Come by to visit some of your ASB buddies! Remember, tickets for Pres girls will not be sold at the door so get them while they’re hot!

And while your return to school also signifies that fall TV shows are coming out soon, make sure TiVo becomes your best friend and get your homework done. Keep on rocking!

Sending you hugs,
Lindsay

Mag Drive preparation... and Frosh Mixer, of course!

Hi guys!

We are currently in Ms. Bengston's room, putting together our amazing ASB dance for the mag drive rally! Are you READY for this?! We can't give you any details regarding our songs, because they are top secret. But be prepared for a whole bunch of skilled moves. If you are interested in challenging us by getting together your own crew for mag drive, bring it on! Tryouts are all next week at 12:30 every day. Grab some friends, mix some music, and have fun! Listen to the bulletin for more information.

To get you in the mood, here are some links to Mag Drive dances throughout the years. Enjoy!

Also, the frosh mixer is coming up next Friday in the Pres gym with the Bell freshmen! The theme is "Tell Me When to Glow"- so bring your glowsticks and get ready to dance! We are so excited to be there with
you guys.

Funky Freshmen

It’s decided- we have funky fresh freshmen. At frosh orientation, ASB had perhaps a little too much fun dressing up in party hats and caution tape to do icebreakers. The frosh were awesome, and accompanied us on our craziness as we did mixers from the shark song to “HEY BURRITO!” I still remember having fun with ASB during my freshman orientation, and I hope that you guys had a great experience as well. For the rest of the Pres girls who didn’t have the chance to have fun at orientation (and for future reference), here are the top ten things ASB wish we knew as frosh:

1. Be nice to Panther. Even though he is slightly old and fat, please respect our mascot and don’t step on him in the hallway. He would appreciate it.

2. Use your planner! The planner has absolutely everything you need, from dates of mixers and mandatory collaborations to guidelines on absence policies and uniform rules. It will be your best friend. Use it. A lot.

3. Don’t worry about getting up an extra hour early to put on makeup. Pres girls love each other for who we are, and there are no boys to impress here! On a similar note…

4. Embrace the lack of testosterone. You will find a significant other, don’t you worry. But in the mean time, love your Pres girls and enjoy school without boys. You can concentrate much better. Really.

5. Get to know your teachers. Our teachers are incredible here, and have so much wisdom and input to offer you. They stay in their classrooms ALL collaboration, just waiting for a student to come in for help! They are always extremely happy to see you and the fact that you’re putting in extra effort.

6. Don’t be afraid of upperclassmen. We are so nice! We love freshman and always want to help you. If you are lost for some reason on Pres’s famously enormous mazelike campus, don’t hesitate to ask someone for directions.

7. Respect the no-cell phone rule. You are in class to learn from your teachers, and you will see your friends at lunch and after school- no need to text them. Plus, the cell phone rule is much harsher this year- three-hour detention and keeping your cell phone over night! Ahhhh!

8. Join a club, team or activity that you are interested in, like theater. Getting involved automatically allows you to meet new people with common interests. The more you put into high school, the more you will get out of it! There is something for everyone here at Pres; whether you like robotics or swimming, there will be something for you.

9. Hallway etiquette 101! Do NOT stop in the middle of the hallway in the morning at any time. That is the only time that the upperclassmen will become slightly annoyed by your presence. If you would like to talk to your friend, slide to the left or right of the hallway cha-cha style so that the hallway flow can commence.

10. Don’t get too happy about the bread! All of the ASB officers think that we gained the freshman fifteen from loving the cafeteria food a little too much. Remember that our wonderful food service also has healthy options, like delicious salads, and also make sure to stay nourished throughout the day! High school takes a lot of brainpower, and you’ll get hungry for sure. And of course, say hi to Apollo as you go through the lunch line.

Non-freshmen, it’s always good to take these to heart as well! We hope that you love the freshman as much as we do.

Love, ASB

New News Avenues!

Read on, folks! The Pres newspaper has now moved online! In addition to a print copy each month, we will constantly post new articles online as events occur. The website looks amazing, and there are fun polls and opportunities to add comments on articles as well! Make sure to check out the first day of school article, posted there now on www.presentationvoice.com.

Hugs,

Your ASB

Alisha, Lindsay, Arisa, JT, and Alyssa

Remember, naps are good for you!

Hola, fellow Panthers! It's already the middle of the week and I've noticed that EVERYONE looks like a wilted flower that hasn't been watered for days! But fear not my little sunflowers! The weekend is almost here! I guess we aren't used to the Pres school cycle just yet. I hope that everyone is getting adjusted to their classes and enjoying it as much as I am. Oh by the way, did you see our "Welcome Back" sign in the front of the school? We hoped you liked it! ASB certainly enjoyed making it.

Well before I go finish my mountain of homework, I would like to remind you all that if you are interested in running for homeroom rep, you must attend a mandatory meeting in order to run. There is one on Friday and one on Monday at 12:30 in room 29! I strongly suggest to run for homeroom rep! I know I'm biased but you get to hang out with some funky fresh peeps!

I would like to remind you all to do all your homework and take naps too!

Lots of love,
Arisa

P.S. For all my wilted flowers! Hope this puts a smile on your face!

P.P.S. I would like to remind you all that if anyone is interested in doing a dance for the mag drive assembly, auditions will be everyday of next week at 12:30!

P.P.P.S. Freshmen! "Tell Me When to Glow" mixer tickets will be on sale next week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at lunch in the courtyard! It's only $10!

Just a few days of summer left!

We are here at California Association of Student Councils, having an amazing time while eating some peanut M&Ms and creeping on all the attractive males at camp. For four days we have been working on our leadership skills, from icebreakers to use at freshman orientation to one-month objective plans that will get projects done around school. We've also been meeting with other student councils and swapping around ideas! We'll do our best to implement all the things we've learned into the upcoming school year, which is coming up really fast and promises to be amazing!

In only a week, we'll be greeting friends and walking the halls of Pres in plaid skirts once again. So much is coming up in the first few months: frosh mixer, fall leadership conference, and mag drive, just to name a few. Let's start off the year fresh and open to learning new things! (You know you secretly missed Pres. All summer.) We hope you are ready and excited, and we'll see you on August 17!

On froyo and fanny packs

Hey Panthers! We are sitting in Arisa's garage right now, eating mangoes and lumpia while trying to recover from the shock of JT's extreme bowling domination. We had a Michael Jackson dance party in Party City, where we searched for back-to-school presents for you all and rang up JT-clearance value $1. Then, we helped our cashier to win $20. Not words but deeds, folks!

After some funky fresh froyo, we meditated in Arisa's Jonas Brothers loft hoping for inspiration to master the jerk by mag drive. We also discovered that there was an actual Alyssa Drive and not just in Alyssa's mind.

By the way, got any suggestions for our neon-fanny-pack dance crew besides the Flamin' Hot Cheetos or Funky 5? Let us know. We hope you are having a wonderful summer filled with lots of summer reading and a lot of SPF 55. We miss you and we will see you the first day back. You're all amazing.

Love,
us
aka: Alisha, Alyssa, Arisa, JT, and Lindsay

P.S. See Harry Potter if you haven't yet. We're sending you liquid luck for the year ahead.

P.P.S: Keep it real.
